So, guys! If you can believe it, the other day I got my renewal notification for this blog, which means this blog is nearly a year old! Time sure flies. Part of me thought I’d be farther along as I reached the one year mark – a few songs under my belt, but I’ve still learned a lot, so it’s totally okay if it’s all a little random, and if I don’t have much by way of finished products. Things are coming together little by little.
And, somehow, I’ve managed to go almost a year on this blog without any sort of consistency in types of entries, which I think is also totally okay BUT! See, I had a thought, a hair-brained idea, a random and sudden explosion of ‘ooh! I should totally do that!’ in my overworked brain.
Becauuuusseee….mixtapes. Who else remembers mixtapes? I’m not talking playlists, Kids, but you, locked in a room with a boom box, a blank cassette, and a pile of other cassettes/CDs/or -GASP- the radio. I had a LOT of mixtapes as a kid. I had a lot of mixtapes as a teen. I was in high school during the casette-to-CD transition, so I pretty much had a lot of everything.
My friends and I had music collections in a constant state of flux from house to house. If the turnover rate of ‘copy it and give it back’ wasn’t so quick, I don’t know that we’d have remembered what belonged to who. I can not describe the quantity of rants about ‘so-and-so returned my disc scratched!’ I’ve heard. (I never damaged other people’s albums, btw, it’s rude! But, as a result I was always the one who got to hear that particular rant.)
So, I can’t share actual mixtapes with you (you’ll have to settle for my mixtape drawing, below), but, I can make youtube playlists for you every month of…whatever I feel like…and call them mixtapes. It sort of counts.
I will tag all of these entries with a “mixtape” tag, so you can easily find them by searching(handy dandy search field is at the bottom of the page). They’ll also be easily accessible on my youtube page.
Without further adieu, let the Montly Mixtape begin!
I thought for my very first monthly mixtape, I’d share a bunch of songs with you that I remember appearing on more than their fair share of mixes(and I admit, I cheat. Some of these were more likely on CD mixes than cassette mixes, in spite of my adorable cassette graphic):
And, Here’s The Breakdown:
1. Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind (album version. please let this be the album version…the radio edit makes me sad)
2. When I Come Around by Green Day
3. Little Black Backpack by Stroke 9
4. Pink by Aerosmith
5. Bitch by Meredith Brooks
6. Closer by Nine Inch Nails
7. Man in the Box by Alice in Chains
