Bar by painstaking bar

Tonight, I’ve made myself some handy dandy tab paper and am working through ‘Lean on Me’ by Bill Withers one bar at a time. I’m hoping writing it all out by hand like this will help me on several fronts.

  1. Writing tab should speed up the process of learning to read it at a reasonable pace.
  2. Marrying vocals to instrumentals is a problem. Since Lean on me focuses pretty firmly on vocals, it’s a good song to use to work on pulling it all together.

All in all, it should be a worthwhile exercise. I’m not having hiccups with it yet (unless you count my crooked handwriting. 🙂 ), but it is definitely slow going.

Until next time, working my way through it, one bar at a time.
