Well, here ya go guys – my first ever guitar song, in all it’s imperfectly played glory. Thank my weirdo muse for this one.
Hurricanes
We’ve been talking in torrents for hours
I can’t hear you over all this rain.
Summer storms just water all the flowers,
but all I ever see are hurricanes.
Words that lash like rain and thunder
Flood waters roughly pull us under
and every time we surface for some air
Hurricanes return with fresh despair.
Some day, the sun will start to shine.
The shoulders holding sorrows won’t be mine.
But until those gray clouds turn to white,
the silver lining is out of sight.
One of us has got to work this out.
You say that I’m the one to blame.
But every time that you open your mouth,
the gale force winds break down the walls I’ve made.
Sometimes love’s not worth the fight
what we have here is not a little rain
the story scratched into the panes
is hurricane after hurricane.
Sun, please shine a little light.
I don’t think we’ll last another night.
Every time he says ‘let’s work it out’
The conversation ends in screams and shouts.
Words that lash like rain and thunder
Flood waters roughly pull us under
and every time we surface for some air
Hurricanes return with fresh despair.
What am I, if not the broken glass.
What is he, but lightning touching ground.
And just when the worst seems in the past,
suddenly, the power all goes out.
And in the darkness whispers sound like shouting
Then in the light the carnage become clear
when storm clouds pass, they leave a lasting echo
that speaks in muddy water and broken branches
wherever you go now, you can’t stay here.
Sometimes love’s not worth the fight
what we have here is not a little rain
the story written of our lives
is hurricane after hurricane.
Someone please come shed a little light.
We’ve been living in and endless night.
